RIG Legal Scheme
RIG is proud to offer its members access to one of the UK's leading legal firms...Hill Dickinson LLP.
* Why spend hours updating your contracts?
* Why spend £250-350 per hour for basic legal advice?
* Why spend time explaining standard contract terms with agents?
* Why put up with legal advice from lawyers with no broadcast experience?
As members of the RIG Legal Scheme you will no longer need to be concerned with the issues outlined above. RIG have partnered with Hill Dickinson LLP to provide Legal Scheme members with access to high-quality broadcast-experienced legal advice at heavily discounted rates.
As well as offering day to day advice at incredible rates, Hll Dickinson LLP have been working with RIG to develop the first ever industry standard draft contracts. Based on the BBC/Talent Union agreements, these new-look contracts recognise the unique requirements of the independent producer when dealing with talent. Currently there are five standard contracts available to Legal Scheme members via Hill Dickinson's extranet site:
* Presenter Contract
* Artist Contract (e.g. actor)
* Writer Contract
* Musician Contract
* Author Contract
We are currently working on a further set of contracts which we hope to make available to members of the scheme later in 2009:
* Producer Contract
* Researcher Contract
* Director Contract
* Composer Contract
* Author Contract
Consider how much you would have to pay for fully-fledged legal support, not to mention hourly costs and contract costs and we hope you will agree that the one off sign up fee is something of a bargain. After year one, there will be an annual fee to pay - just £86! So how much is it?
£295.00
And that is it! You get all the standard contracts, access to Hill Dickinson lawyers at discounted rates, access to the Hill Dickinson legal services newsletter and website resources, as well as opportunities to attend joint RIG/Hill Dickinson seminars every year.

The RIG standard contracts are now available...They have been roadtested in negotiations with the major talent bodies and with selected agents, and were drafted, in consultation with RIG, by the Media and Intellectual Property department of the RIG solicitors Hill Dickinson (headed up by James Cashman and Samantha Lansbury)
- Each contract comes with full explanatory notes, which are a producers brief to the issues involved in the document, including where appropriate suggestions how you can tailor it to improve your situation. The documents will be regularly reviewed, and will for example be updated to incorporate the new Terms of Trade when they come in.
The independent radio producers of the UK now have, for the first time, their own recommended minimum standard contracts. They show lines in the sand that have been won by key players. And as part of the process, RIG now has ongoing contract negotiations with Equity, the Musicians Union, the Society of Authors, the BBC, the WGGB and others, where we argue for the rights of independent radio producers.
