Martin Jarvis Receives Inaugural RIG Radio Production Award
Posted on 27th May 2007
At a packed launch for the new Radio Production Awards, actor, director and producer Martin Jarvis OBE became the first ever recipient of the OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION TO THE CRAFT OF RADIO AWARD. Introduced by the Chair of RIG, Neil Gardner, and presented by Mark Perry of BBC's Dead Ringers, the award recognised the dedication, passion and enthusiasm Martin has put into UK radio over many years.
In his acceptance speech, Martin told the assembled audience from across the radio, arts, audio production and government sectors, that he was honoured to receive the award, and that he would accept it so long as he could accept it also on behalf of Ros Ayres, his partner at Jarvis & Ayres Productions.
The evening launch of the new awards went extremely succesfully, with over 100 attendees from the BBC, commercial radio, independent producers, freelancers, associated industries, Channel 4 Radio, Hill Dickinson, and also representatives of several MPs. Hosted by the unfeasibly talented Danny Robins, the event featured speeches by RIG Chair Neil Gardner, Director of Radio for Channel 4 Nathalie Schwarz and a very popular 'In The Dark' radio experience. We all now look forward to the first awards in May 2008!
RIG would like to thank the following for their invaluable help in organising the day's events:
